This is a set of 2 vintage Lane rolling cube storage ottomans, Style No. 997-87 from the Rhythm Collection (Altavista, Virginia). They are incredibly popular amongst mid-century collectors due to their highly functional, modular, multi-purpose design.
They have clever 3-in-1 functionality. The top cushion lid is entirely reversible. On one side they feature a black vinyl cushion and on the other side a finished wood surface with an inlaid chess or checkerboard.
They also feature hidden storage (under the lid). The interiors are fully cedar lined (making it a safe place to store blankets).
They also have small hidden casters so they are easy to move. They can serve as footrests, extra seating or as a side table.
They are constructed with a solid wood structure overlaid with rich walnut veneers accented by grooved detail running along the side panels.
This set was very gently used. The vinyl upholstery is in very good condition. There are some light scratches and a small piece of missing veneer (near where the flippable top meets the cube) on one cube. These are in exceptional condition given their age.
