The Eero Saarinen Grasshopper chair and ottoman is a masterclass in organic modernism. First designed in 1946 as his first commission for Knoll. This design perfectly captures the transition from rigid pre-war furniture to the fluid sculptural forms that dominated the mid to late 20th century. It is a symbol of brilliant engineering.
The chair takes it's name from the resemblance to a grasshoppers rear legs. Despite the generous size of the chair, it maintains an open airy floating appearance. This chair is a classic that will never go out of style. Comfortable and beautiful.
This chair does not retain original Knoll labels but impressed marking on the legs are indicative of early Knoll production. This set would benefit from reupholstery as there is separation to the fabric at the back of the chair (see close up images).
