A lovely Eames Lounge chair and ottoman in black leather. The shell of the chair is walnut and the shell on the ottoman is rosewood (although you really don't see the difference in wood grain on the ottoman).
It appears this set was produced between 1970-1990 (per the logo and the stamp on the bottom of the ottoman we believe it is a 1980's set). The leather is supple and in very good condition given the age of the chair. The shells are also in good condition. There are some scratches and water marks to the metal on the bases on both pieces (see close-up images).
Charles and Ray Eames designed this iconic lounge chair in 1956. They used a pioneering bent-plywood method first explored at Cranbrook Academy of Art. They set out to create a lounge chair that had the warm receptive look of a well-used baseball mitt. The chair was produced by Herman Miller and Herman Miller continues to produce authentic Eames Lounge Chairs today - 70 years later - in a variety of options.
