Simply stunning, ornate, black lacquer cabinet from The Stately Homes Collection by Baker Furniture. It features two paneled black lacquer doors and sides that are elaborately decorated in a raised gilt and ochre landscape design.
It has finely cast brass mounts and hinges finished in dark antique bronze. When opened, it exposes black lacquer interior doors beautifully hand-painted in a similar manner and fitted with one shallow long drawer and above it a shelf/surface that pulls out to provide a bar surface or desk (although given the height it appears it was intended to be used as a bar - that surface has a black laminate top).
The back wall of the interior is mirrored and has two adjustable glass shelves. The interior is also lit. The chest rests on a Chinese Chippendale square chamfered legs that feature pierced fretwork angle brackets where the legs meet the cabinet.
When the cabinet was made, it cost approximately $50,000 but it is no longer in production. That would translate to roughly a $175,000 today.
It was part of Baker's Stately Homes Collector's Edition. This particular piece is fashioned after a significant English antique circa 1760.
In excellent condition given the age of the piece. This is a showpiece that will immediately elevate any interior.
