Lovely framed and matted print of three snipe fish by Heather Fortner. Signed and dated 1987. Done is lovely shades of oranges and reds. Beautifully framed and matted (although frame is damaged in the upper corner - see images).
Heather fortune studied Natural Sciences at the University of Hawaii and then spent six years on fishing vessels in the Pacific. She taught herself to print in 1976 after seeing a gyotaku print. She realized it was the perfect blend of the artistic and marine realms. She often worked on her prints during downtime as a merchant marine. She studied with some gyotaku masters in Japan and had access to a broad variety of fish in her work at sea. She later moved to a studio in Florida and later to Oregon.
