A lovely Mastercraft console table. This table features a substantial brass base that is Chinoiserie in style. There a cream colored leather wrapped (or faux leather) top that has a thin line of brass inset all around the top of the table.
This table does not have a Mastercraft label, instead it was made for and marketed by a high-end Chicago area furniture company - Richard Honquist (so it has a Honquist label on the underside of the table). We have the matching Mastercraft buffet (also with a Honquist label) in a separate listing. If you are interested in both, reach out for an additional discount.
Compared to that other furniture-makers of their time, Mastercraft's works seemed positively flamboyant. The company was founded in 1947 by brothers Charles and William Doezema. The firm specialized in pieces that had more modern forms, often finished in exotic wood veneers and trimmed in brass.
In 1974, Mastercraft was acquired by Baker Furniture Company. They are no longer in production. Some of the most popular Mastercraft pieces range in price from about $2,000 to $75,000 depending on size, condition and the amount of decorative trim. Mastercraft furnishings make a bold statement — perfect for lending a bit of glitz and glamour to any interior.
There is patina to the brass. There are minor imperfections to the faux leather (see close up images) including a faint water ring.
